Stay successful in the fashion accessories business by researching popular trends.
According to WWD Markets, fashion accessories sales increased 20 percent in the first quarter for 2010. This is good news for those who want to start a business in this field. Fashion accessories can include jewelry, hats, scarves, hair clips, purses and sunglasses so if you want to start a business selling these products, you will need them in stock. You will also have to keep up to date on industry trends and display the newest styles.
You can sell accessories at a store location or as a home business, but the home business will cost you the least. Starting at home will give you the practice of running a business without the disadvantage of the large start up costs of a store location.
Instructions
1. Purchase your inventory. You can purchase through wholesalers, purchase from online discount warehouses or from local crafters. A crafter can be a useful resource when looking for inventory. They are willing to make you what you want and can create unique accessories that many other stores will not have. Browse through a local craft show at a church or festival for examples of their work.
2. Choose your location. If you are looking at a store location your start up costs will be higher than starting at home. You will have to get a business license, purchase display equipment and set hours of operation. As a home based business you have flexible hours and lower start up costs.
3. Open an online store, whether you are home based or in a store location. Use your website to tell people about your business and showcase your accessories. Post clear pictures and write descriptions about your products. An online store will expose your business to the millions of customers who shop for fashion accessories.
4. Host a fashion accessories party. You can have one at any location, even at your own home. Invite friends and family to come to your party to browse through your products and purchase them. Serve food and drinks and play games to keep customers entertained.
5. Hire consultants. Consultants are people who will sell your product for you in exchange for a commission. They can use their own resources to sell your products and you will gain a wider customer base. Some consultants will purchase your products for a discounted rate and then resell them for retail price. Whichever way you choose, consultants are a useful way of expanding your fashion accessories business.
