A wig hairnet is used for hair to be woven to make wigs. Unlike a customary hairnet that holds hair in place on the top of the head, a wig hairnet holds the strands of hair of the wig in place under the hair. Making the hairnet does require some time, as it needs to be custom made to fit the person who'll be wearing the wig.
Instructions
Preparation
1. Measure the head using a measuring tape. Take measurements from the forehead to the base of the skull, over the top of the head from the forehead to the base of the skull, from the top of the head to the ears, from the temple to the back of the head, from the top of the ear to the back of the head, and from the top of the head to the top of the ear. Also measure from the middle of the earlobe to the neckline on the back of the head.
2. Mark these measurements on a Styrofoam wig head using a pencil or marker.
3. Lay out fabric netting over the wig head and cut it with scissors to fit the outer lines of your measurements.
Weaving
4. Insert a weaving needle prepared with nylon lace through one of the octagonal shapes on the netting fabric.
5. Wrap the nylon lace up over the edge of the octagonal shape, making a loop around the edge of the shape.
6. Wrap the nylon thread under the octagonal shape, pulling it up and through the shape. The second wrap should be next to the first.
7. Insert the weaving needle and nylon lace into the next octagonal shape on the net fabric and continue to weave throughout the entire cut netting until the entire hairnet has been woven.
