Makeup for cheer will depend on whether you're on the field or competing.
Cheer makeup varies on whether a cheerleader is on the field at a game or at a cheer competition. While the former allows subtle makeup similar to that a teen would wear on a daily basis, the latter occasion usually calls for very intense makeup similar to that seen at dance recitals. Makeup should pop for cheer competitions, as facial expressions and polished makeup create a uniform look for the cheer team.
Many cheer coaches require certain shades of eye shadow or lipstick for competition, so be sure to check with your coach before purchasing new products.
Instructions
1. Apply primer. Primer should be used for cheering on the field or a pep rally, as well as for competitions. A primer prolongs the look of fresh makeup. For a regular cheering occasion, most teens can wear a tinted moisturizer. For a competition, foundation should be worn for a flawless look. Allow primer to dry and dot tinted moisturizer or foundation at the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Blend out with a foundation brush.
2. Apply blush. Use a fluffy blush brush to apply a pink-toned blush at the apples of the cheeks.
3. Apply eye makeup. This is the main component of cheer makeup that varies from the field to competitions. In both cases, apply eye primer. For field makeup, add a neutral shadow from the lid to the brow bone with the flat eye shadow brush and blend with the fluffy brush, if needed. If wanted, line eyes with pencil eye liner and add waterproof mascara to define lashes.
For a cheer competition, eye makeup will be far more intense. Apply a neutral shadow over entire lid wit the flat eye shadow brush. Using the other side of the eye shadow brush, pick up a contouring color (a darker shade) and apply to the crease. Use the fluffy brush to add a highlighting shade to the brow bone and blend thoroughly to remove any harsh lines. Add pencil eye liner at the lash line (both top and bottom). Add faux lashes, if specified by the cheer coach. When using faux lashes, go over the pencil eye liner with a liquid liner for a clean look that will blend the faux lash strip into the lash line. Add waterproof mascara to blend faux and natural lashes.
4. Apply lip liner. Some cheer coaches will require a certain lipstick, such as red, for competitions. Neutral lip liner should always be used regardless of the lipstick shade you are placing on top of it. This creates a more natural look as lipstick gradually fades throughout the day.
Line and fill in lips with neutral lip liner. For a normal cheer occasion, apply a soft pink gloss or lipstick. For a competition, your cheer coach is likely to select red or a true pink lipstick. To enhance the staying power, apply lipstick, blot with a tissue and apply another layer.
