Sometimes it can be hard to tell whether a baby is a boy or a girl, after all, babies don't really have any distinguishing gender-specific physical characteristics. One way that you can let everyone know that your baby is a girl is by putting a large, hard-to-ignore bow in her hair. Boutique-style bows can be quite costly, but you can make your own bows with a pair of old pantyhose and some craft wire in just a few minutes.
Instructions
1. Cut a 6 inch length of 18 gauge wire with flush wire snips. Form that length of wire into a figure 8 with the ends looping around into the center of the strip of wire, one end looping down and the other end looping up. Twist the ends of wire around the center of the wire using your needle nose pliers.
2. Place the figure 8 piece of wire inside the leg of a pair of pantyhose, so that it faces the front or back of the leg, about 6 inches up from the toe of the pantyhose. Wrap the pantyhose leg that is above and below the piece of wire around the center of the wire, heading in opposite directions and then tie them in a double knot in the back of the figure 8. A simple box knot, the kind that you begin to tie your shoes with, is the knot that you want to use. You should now have a construction that looks something like a miniature pair of fairy wings with a knot in the middle.
3. Attach a strip of ribbon to the top of your blank barrette with hot glue to cover any part of the shiny metal that might show through your rather sheer bow. Attach your pantyhose bow with a generous amount of hot glue.
