Use ribbon and hot glue to make your own hair bows.
Alligator hair clips are metal clips that have two tabs on one end, and when they are squeezed, the other end opens like an alligator’s mouth. Alligator clips can be covered in ribbon and made into cute little hair bows that can be used in child and adult hairstyles to add a little something extra to your look. Alligator hair bows are easy to make and can be used for your own hair styling, or given as gifts.
Instructions
1. Measure and cut a piece of grosgrain ribbon that is about 4 5/16 inches long. Light the lighter and hold the end of the ribbon that you just cut as close to the flame as possible without actually touching it. The end of the ribbon will melt slightly and look like plastic. When the entire edge has sealed, pull it away and allow it to cool.
2. Place the ribbon on the table horizontally, with the pattern side facing down. Squeeze the clip open, and slide the ribbon in between to the two "jaws" of the alligator clip until one end reaches the opening of the clip. Make sure the ribbon is centered completely on the clip. There will be excess length of ribbon to the right of the clip.
3. Squeeze hot glue onto the top of the clip. Fold the excess ribbon back over the top of the alligator clip. Be careful not to use too much hot glue. Just use a thin line of hot glue around the clip. There will still be a small amount of ribbon hanging over the edge of the clip. Fold the excess ribbon back down under the underside of the clip. Glue it in place.
4. Cut a 2 3/8-inch piece of ribbon and a 1-inch piece of ribbon. Form a circle with the 2 3/8-inch piece of ribbon. Dab a drop of glue on the inside of one end of ribbon, and place the other end on top of it. Allow the glue to dry. Place a drop of glue on top of where the two ends of ribbon are glued together, then squeeze the center of the top and bottom of the circle together and hold in place until it dries. This will form a little bow.
5. Glue the bow to the center of the alligator clip, so that the bow is placed horizontally over the horizontal clip. Position the 1-inch piece of ribbon vertically and center it over the clip. Dab a drop of glue in the center of the clip and glue on the 1-inch ribbon. Open the clip and wrap the 1-inch ribbon around the underside, then glue each end down.
