Decorate personalized wire hangers with ribbon.
Finding the perfect wedding dress is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning for many women. A beautiful wedding dress calls for a beautiful hanger that stands out among standard wire clothes hangers; this is of special consideration for brides who would like photographs of their dress before it is put on. Making your own wire hanger at home allows you to personalize it with words, such as your new last name or the names of your bridesmaids.
Instructions
1. Cut a length of 14-gauge galvanized wire using wire cutters. A 60-inch length of wire is recommended for four-letter names; add an extra 10 inches of wire for each additional letter. You can also use words, such as "forever" and "love."
2. Write out how you would like your chosen word or name to look on a piece of paper, if desired. Cursive letters look elegant and beautiful. You can use this as an example when you are creating the letters in the wire.
3. Manipulate the wire, beginning in the middle of the piece you cut in Step 1, to spell your chosen word or name. Use needle nose pliers to shape and bend the wire into the necessary curves and angles; if desired, use a large battery, such as a C or D, to help you form circles and curves for letters such as "s," "o" and "b."
4. Use a standard wire hanger as a template to shape the remainder of the 14-gauge galvanized wire into the proper shape. Use the needle nose pliers, or your hands, to bend both sides of the wire upward and inward.
5. Bring the two sides of the wire together and twist one side around the other to form the base of the hook. Use wire cutters to trim off the excess wire, bending the sharp edge inward.
6. Make a hook for the personalized wire hanger by bending the remainder of the wire using your hands or the needle nose pliers.
7. Decorate the personalized wire hanger by adding a length of ribbon, tied into a bow, where the hook meets the base. Choose ribbon that matches the colors for the wedding.
