Help Make Your Own Feathered Hair Clip

Make Your Own Feathered Hair Clip

Feathered accessories have always been an eye-catching way to jazz up an ensemble. In the 1940s, many women wore hats decorated with large feathers. Today, the desired effect is a little more subtle. Feathered hair clips can be purchased pre-made but often at a high price. Making your own feathered hair clip requires just a few tools and materials from your local craft store. These clips can be personalized to your taste and make great gifts for friends and family.

Instructions

1. Heat up your hot glue gun, if you're using one.

2. Lay out all your materials and visualize the finished look. Cut the feathers down to size if they are too large. Cut a piece of fabric to cover the top and underside of your clip.

3. Place a strip of glue along the top of your metal clip. Lay the fabric onto the clip and hold in place for a few seconds. Turn the clip over and place a strip of glue along the underside of the clip. Fold the two ends of the cloth under the clip and press into place onto the glue. It's best if both ends of the fabric meet in the middle of the clip, so cut them to size before pressing into the glue.

4. Allow the clip to dry for a few minutes.

5. Apply a line of glue to the top of the clip and add your feathers. A layered effect can be pretty. To do this, apply a strip of glue and place a feather. Apply another strip and place a second feather. Continue to do this until you have achieved the desired effect.

6. Place a small dot of glue onto a button and place onto the feathers wherever desired.
