Sparklers can add a festive air to any Independence Day party. However, sparklers also can be very unsafe, especially if there are children involved. To make kid-friendly, decorative sparklers, use tinsel and pipe cleaners to make a fire-free decoration. These sparklers will reflect the light as if they were really on fire while still preventing burns and accidents. Making sparklers from tinsel will give everyone a chance to celebrate his country's independence with safe fun.
Instructions
1. Use a handsaw or other woodcutting tool to cut off the sharp ends of the chopsticks or wooden skewers. If the sticks are especially long, cut them in half, or cut a small amount of length off the end, especially for smaller children.
2. Cut the tinsel into pieces that are 3 to 4 inches long each. You can combine a variety of different colors, such as red, blue, silver or gold, or just use one consistent color.
3. Spread foil stars onto a flat surface. You can use star-shaped foil confetti, or you can cut out your own stars using a shape puncher or die-cutting machine used for scrapbooking. Dab a small amount of glue onto the back of each star and glue them to the ends of the tinsel.
