Corker bows, a sort of pom pom-shaped hairbow made of spiral ribbon, make for playful hair accessories for young girls and festive ones for cheerleaders. Save yourself a lot of money and pass on the corker bows you find in children's boutiques and accessory stores. Make your own corker ribbon with ribbon from the craft or fabric store and a few other inexpensive supplies. Once you learn to make the spiral-curled ribbon, assembling a bow with it is a cinch.
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 275-degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Clip the end of your ribbon to the end of your wooden dowel with a binder clip so the ribbon is slanted at roughly a 45-degree angle. The angle doesn't need to be exact.
3. Wrap the ribbon tightly around the wooden dowel. Cut the the ribbon from the spool once you reach the other end of the dowel. Secure that end of the ribbon to the dowel with a binder clip the same as you did the first.
4. Wrap as many wooden dowels as you like with ribbon in the same manner as the first. A full corker bow requires about nine dowels-worth of ribbon. Place all the ribbon-wrapped dowels on your cookie sheet.
5. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and allow the ribbons to bake for 20 minutes.
6. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven. Allow 20 minutes of cooling time.
7. Remove the clips from the ends of the dowels. Hold the dowels vertical so the ribbon slides off them.
