Create A Clay Princess

Adorn your princess' crown with tiny glue-on gemstones.

Using clay to make miniature princesses is a simple craft activity to keep a child's boredom at bay on a rainy afternoon, or a great way to occupy a group of children at a princess-themed birthday party. The clay princess can be customized to any size you like and decorated with bright colored paints and sparkling glitters. When the princess is finished, decorate your child's room with her artistic creation and let her make an extra one to give to a special friend or family member at Christmastime.

Instructions

1. Knead a handful of polymer clay in your hands to make it soft enough to work with easily.

2. Take a 1-inch ball of the polymer clay and roll it in your hands to make a ball. Lay the ball on a baking sheet and press down gently with the palm of your hand to flatten the ball into a circle. This makes the princess' head.

3. Shape a tiny piece of clay into a rectangle for the neck and press it to the bottom of the head.

4. Make a 1 1/2-inch long by 1-inch-wide rectangle from another piece of clay. Lay it at the bottom of the neck and press down gently to make the torso.

5. Take a 2-inch ball of clay and roll it in your hands to make a ball. Lay the ball on the wax paper and press down gently to make the princess' skirt. Press it down gently on the bottom of the torso.

6. Roll two small pieces of clay to make the arms. Press these to the top edges of the torso and bend them to the bottom, center of the torso.

7. Roll seven pieces of clay into long, thin logs to make the princess' hair. Lay the pieces together and press down slightly on the center. Lay the hair around the princess' head.

8. Flatten another small piece of clay and cut out a crown shape. Place it on top of the hair and press down gently.

9. Bake the clay princess at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. Take the baking sheet out of the oven and let it cool completely. Remove the princess from the pan with a metal spatula.

10. Paint the princess with acrylic paints. Add skin color to the face, arms and neck. Make the hair yellow, brown, black or red. Paint the dress and crown in the colors of your choice. Let the paint dry thoroughly.

11. Paint the dress and crown with a coat of glitter glue. Let the glue dry and apply a second coat to add some shimmer.
