Create A 4th Of This summer Gift Basket

Make a fun Fourth of July gift basket as a thoughtful hostess gift for the holiday event you are attending. They are simple to create and less expensive than purchasing one ready made. A Fourth of July gift basket is built around three colors and the summer season of the year and there are many fillers that can be included. Look for decorative items and gifts that will please the hostess. This gift basket has a picnic theme that will give the hostess a private family event to look forward to.

Instructions

1. Rip 1 inch strips of one of your fabrics. Hot glue one end of a fabric strip to the beginning of your handle. Wrap the strip around the handle to the other side and hot glue to secure. If your strip does not make it to the other side of the handle, hot glue the end and overlap another over it to continue. Choose a different fabric and rip two more strips. Tie one strip into a bow around the beginning of the handle. Repeat on the opposite side of the handle. Rip four pieces of fabric 20 inches square. These are your picnic lap napkins. Fold them and set them aside for now. Rip an additional 24 inch square of fabric and drape it in the basket as a liner. These squares do not have to be made of the same fabric.

2. Paint both sides of the wood stars using the paint color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry. Hot glue the stars over the knots of the fabric bows on the handles. Dip the sponge stamp in one of the paint colors and stamp the jars. Clean the sponge. Repeat with the remaining acrylic paints. Stamp a different colored star on the side of each votive holder. Allow the paints to dry.

3. Cut several long lengths of raffia about a yard long and tie bows around the necks of the painted pint jars. Trim the raffia if desired. Rip more strips of 1 inch wide fabric. Tie bows with the fabric strips and hot glue over the raffia bows on the jars. Fill one jar each with plastic spoons, forks and knives. Roll a small pile of each color of paper napkins together. Insert all three colored rolls in the remaining jar.

4. Place the tea light candles in the votive holders. Place patriotic stickers on the wine bottle. Tie a raffia bow around the neck of the wine bottle and the wine glass stems. Tuck the folded fabric lap napkins in the wine glasses.

5. Stand the plastic plates in the back of the basket. Stagger and overlap their colors. Set the jars of utensils and napkins in front of the plates. Center the wine bottle in the front of the basket and place two wine glasses on each side of it. Tuck the votive holders where they will fit. Tuck fans of tissue paper among the items in the basket.
