Create perfect hair bows for your daughter.
Many little girls love to wear hair bows. Although adorable, they can be pretty pricey when purchased from a boutique, hair salon or drugstore. Instead of wasting your money on one hair bow, purchase the ribbon yourself and make your own hair bows for a fraction of the cost. This simple hair bow instruction does not require any sewing or gluing, so not only can your little one help, but you"ll have a brand-new hair bow made in about five minutes.
Instructions
1. Lay your ribbon down on a clean and flat surface. If the ribbon is detailed on one side only, place it detail side up.
2. Cut the ribbon so it is 20 inches long.
3. Hold the middle 5 inches of the ribbon down with one hand. Fold the right side of the ribbon tail so it crosses to the left side. Then, fold the left side of the ribbon tail over the right ribbon tail so it crosses to the right side. The crossed ribbon should resemble a large "awareness" ribbon. The middle 5 inches of ribbon will still be detailed-side up, but the crossed ribbon tails will be detailed-sides down.
4. Clip an alligator clip to the middle of the 5 inches of ribbon that is still detailed-side up. Then attach that same 5 inches of ribbon to the where the ribbon tail crisscrosses with the alligator clip. This will not only keep the ribbons together, but it will also scrunch up the middle 5 inches of ribbon to from two ribbon bow loops.
5. Fold the right ribbon tail over the alligator clip, crossing to the left side and using the clip to secure the ribbon tail. Then, fold the left ribbon tail over the alligator clip, crossing to the right side and using the clip to secure the ribbon tail.
6. Tie a piece of yarn or thick thread around the middle of the bow, knotting the yarn/thread in the back of the bow. Adjust the loops so they are as big or small as you'd like them to be.
7. Snip off the ends of the yarn/thread, then cut the ribbon ends so they are the same length.
8. Slide a bobby pin or hair clip through the yarn/thread in the back of the ribbon to secure the pin or clip. Attach the hair bow to the hair or a ponytail.
