Tying a bow requires a little patience and practice.
Making a pretty bow intimidates many gift givers. Learning create a proper bow, however, transforms wreaths, gifts and many crafts into works of art. Take your time and learn the basics of bow making and you'll impress your friends for years to come.
Instructions
1. Measure 24 inches of grosgrain ribbon. Cut the ribbon to this measurement. Cut each end of the length of ribbon diagonally to prevent fraying.
2. Fold the ribbon in half and pinch the half mark between your finger and thumb to create a visible crease. Make two, equally sized bunny ears (loops) on either side of the crease. Space the loops evenly. Set the ribbon, with the two bunny ears, on a flat surface in front of you.
3. Place the right loop over the left loop. A teardrop-shaped opening forms below the loops.
4. Fold the right loop over and under the left loop and up through the teardrop-shaped opening. This makes a knot. Do not twist the ribbon.
5. Pull the loops gently into a firm knot. If the loops or tails of the bow appear unequal, work with the ribbon until the bow is fairly balanced. Run your forefinger and thumb around the ribbon of each loop to straighten any wrinkles.
6. Cut off the diagonal ends of each ribbon tail to create a straight, vertical end. Fold each tail, once cut, in half lengthwise and cut this folded end diagonally about 1 inch above the end. When you release the tail, you should see two clean, triangular points facing away from the bow.
