If you plan on throwing a party or going to a party, curling ribbon is sure to come in handy. Instead of paying to have your present wrapped and decorated, why not save your money and learn do it yourself.
Instructions
Decorating Packages
1. Cut a piece of curling ribbon that can easily wrap around your present several times. Use a longer piece than you expect to need because you can always trim it later. If desired, use several different colored ribbons.
2. Place your wrapped gift in the center of the ribbon with the top facing down. Bring the ribbon that is sticking out on the left and right side of the package together in the middle and twist them around each other so you can change the direction. Turn the package over and bring the ribbons together. Tie a knot in the ribbon. A cross should have formed on both sides of the package.
3. Make a bow from the leftover ribbon and use your scissors to cut the bow loops in half. If you used one ribbon you should now have four pieces of ribbon sticking out from your package.
4. Run the sharp end of your scissors over the four ribbon pieces in a slow but firm fashion. The ribbon will curl because its outer layer is forcefully stretched and therefore expands while its inner layer doesn't.
Balloons
5. Fill a balloon with helium and tie it so the helium cannot escape.
6. Cut a 2-foot piece of curling ribbon from its spool.
7. Tie one end of the ribbon to the balloon and tie the other end to a balloon weight to keep the balloon from blowing away.
Curling Ribbon Decorations
8. Blow up three balloons and tie them together with an elastic band to form a balloon cluster.
9. Cut three 1 1/2-yard curling ribbon strands in the colors you desire. Hold the three ribbons in your hand and tie them together by making a knot in the middle. You should end up with three strands on each side of the knot.
10. Run the sharp end of your scissors over the ribbon in a slow yet firm manner to curl the ribbon.
11. Slide the strands between your balloon cluster. When holding the balloon cluster up, the strands should be hanging down in between the balloons.
12. Hang your decorative balloon piece from a chandelier, ceiling or wall.
