You always see hair bows made with curly ribbon at your favorite kid's store, and you want to get them for that special little girl, but you practically have a heart attack when you glance at the price tag. Save your money and make those precious curly hair bows on your own. You don't need to have any craft experience to put together your own colorful korker bows. As long as you can wrap, cut and tie you can make a bow in less than an hour with supplies from the craft store.
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F.
2. Clip one end of your ribbon to one end of your wooden dowel using a clothespin or binder clip. Wrap the ribbon around the dowel tightly so the edges of the wrapped ribbon butt up against one another. Trim the ribbon once you reach the other end of the dowel. Clip that end of the ribbon to the dowel in the same manner as the first. Wrap all nine dowels the same way using all one color of ribbon or a variety of colors.
3. Place the wrapped dowels on a cookie sheet. Bake the ribbon-wrapped dowels for 25 minutes.
4. Remove the ribbon-wrapped dowels from the oven and allow them to cool for 25 minutes or until completely cool. Remove the clips from each end of each dowel. Remove the ribbon from each dowel -- ribbon should slide off, but some may have to be unwrapped.
5. Cut each korker, or curly, ribbon into four 3 1/2-inch long pieces. Stack the lengths of ribbon on a 12-inch piece of elastic cord so the cord runs down the middle of the ribbon's length. Bring the ends of the cord together. Tie the cord in a single knot and tighten the knot down onto the ribbons, bunching them all together, before tying the cord in another knot to permanently secure it.
6. Wrap the tails of the cord around the center of the korker bow two or three more times, depending on how much length you have left, before tying them in another double knot. Trim the tails.
7. Fluff the curly ribbon bow. Use hot glue to attach the bow to a blank hair accessory such as a clip, headband or barrette.
