Make a big hair bow, for a big impression.
Hair bows are every girl’s favorite hair accessory, and the bigger the better. While a hair bow can be tied around a pony tail, it’s a much better idea to make a hair bow that is permanently attached to a barrette clip-that way you can make a bigger, fuller hair bow that lasts. Making your own big hair bow accessory is simple, and your little princess can be the envy of all her friends with her big hair bow in tow.
Instructions
1. Cut eight pieces of ribbon, each to 12 inches length. Cut a ten inch length of ribbon and an eight inch length of ribbon, and cut an inverted triangle out of the ends of these two pieces, which will be the bow tails.
2. Fold the ends of the ribbon over until they meet to form a loop. Press the ends of the ribbon down onto the other side of the loop, then place a single stitch to hold them in place. You will now have two loops on either side of the stitch. Repeat with the remaining pieces of ribbon.
3. Pick two of the ribbon pieces, and lay them across one another to form and ‘X’ shape. Fold the ten inch pieces of ribbon over at the center, so if forms an inverted ‘V’ then place this over the cross-centers aligned. You will have two loops on either side of the bow, and two, five inch tails.
4. Arrange the remaining looped and stitched ribbon pieces on top of the ‘X’ at different angles, but with the centers aligned, then fold and place the eight inch tail piece on top of them all.
5. Push your needle through the bottom of the center, then place three stitches, around one-quarter inch apart through the center of all the ribbons. Gently pull on the thread, so that the ribbons form pleats in the center.
6. Wrap the remaining thread around the center of the bow, then tie off.
7. Cut a five inch piece of ribbon, tie it in a loose knot, then place the knot over the center of the bow, obscuring the stitches and thread. Wrap the end of this piece around the back of the bow, then stitch in place.
8. Place a generous glob of hot glue on the back of the bow’s center, then press it onto the barrette clip. Let dry. Your big, six inch, eight loop, two tailed bow is now complete.
