Make Full Fluffy Hair Bows

Organza ribbon comes in a variety of colors and designs for the perfect hair accessory.

When it comes to making full and fluffy hair bows, it is definitely more about the ribbon material used to make the bow than the technique itself. For truly full, fluffy hair bows, use ribbon that not only is full and fluffy, but is easily manipulated. Using wired organza ribbon for your hair bows is one way to ensure that they stay full and always in shape. Once you've learned this relatively simple technique, you'll be able to create pretty hair accessories for every outfit.

Instructions

1. Cut two pieces of organza ribbon, one that is about 22 inches long and another that is 2 inches long. Brush a light layer of a seam sealer on each ribbon end to prevent fraying.

2. Fold the organza ribbon in half. Mark the middle of the ribbon -- on the non-printed side -- with a pencil. Flip the ribbon over so the non-printed side is facing up.

3. Loop one end of the ribbon over so that it meets the penciled mark. Loop the other other end of the ribbon over to meet the penciled mark. Your ribbon should now look like a figure eight.

4. Fold both loops over to meet at the penciled mark. Clamp a salon hair clip over the middle of the ribbon to hold the loops in place. Adjust the loops as necessary to ensure the bow is even on both sides.

5. Wrap the entire two-inch piece of craft wire tightly around the middle of the bow. Apply a pea-sized drop of craft glue on the wire on back of the bow.

6. Press one end of the shorter piece of ribbon onto the drop of glue. Wrap this ribbon around the middle of the bow to hide the wire. Apply a pea-sized drop of glue to the end of the shorter ribbon and press to secure to the back of the bow.

7. Attach an alligator clip to the back of the bow by sliding it through the ribbon that is wrapped around the middle of the bow. Allow the bow to dry for a full 12 hours.

8. Fluff up your bow by manipulating the wired edges of the ribbon. Spray a light layer of fabric stiffener over the entire bow. Make sure that you fully wet the ribbon without saturating it. Allow the bow to dry for two hours before clipping in hair.
