Create A Traditional Yorkie Bow

Yorkshire Terriers are traditionally adorned with small, decorative bows.

The Yorkshire Terrier is a small breed of dog known for its long, silky coat. Because of their long hair, Yorkies often wear hair bows to keep the bangs out of their eyes and to give them an added touch of elegance. Make your own traditional Yorkie bows using regular silk ribbon in the color of your choice. These bows are very simple to make and do not require any sewing or special skills.

Instructions

1. Lay out your ribbon on a flat surface and measure 7.5 inches of ribbon. Cut the ribbon to length. Cut both ends so they are at an angle to prevent the ribbon from fraying.

2. Grab your ribbon and cross the two ends over each other. The tails of your folded ribbon should be about 1 inch long and should be equal in length.

3. Pinch the tails together in the center of the fold and then use your other hands to fold the center of the large loop down to meet the center of the fold. Use your thumb and index finger to hold the ribbon firmly together in this bow shape.

4. Place the rubber band directly in the center of the bow and hold it in place using your thumb. Take the crochet hook and grab part of the rubber band -- keep holding part of the rubber band against the front of the bow.

5. Pull the rubber band behind the bow, then pull the other side of the rubber band between the two tails, toward the back of the bow. Hook the band onto the hook and pull it through the other side of the elastic that is already on the hook.

6. Pull the loop tight and insert a Popsicle stick into the elastic loop. Turn the bow over and fluff the bow so it looks nice. When you're ready to put the bow on your Yorkie, remove the Popsicle stick and slide the elastic loop around the dog's top knot.
