Use any colored ribbon to dress up rubber flip flops.
Turn any pair of plain flip flops into adorably fashionable ones with grosgrain ribbons and hair bows. Choose your hair bows first, then purchase the grosgrain ribbon in a coordinating color to match the bows. When you are finished, you will have a totally unique and fun pair of flip flops that will be a fraction of the cost of store-bought or boutique ribbon flip flops. To really save money, use an old pair of flip flops and old hair bows to make your flip flops for under a few dollars.
Instructions
1. Place a pea-sized drop of craft super glue on the outside of the flip flop thong--where the thong and the base of the flip flop meet. Place another pea-size drop of craft super glue on the end of your ribbon.
2. Press the ribbon to the thong to adhere. Add three pea-sized drops of glue along the first half of the thong, from the base to the middle of the thong.
3. Wrap the ribbon around the first half of the thong until you reach the middle of the thong. Slightly overlap the wrapped ribbon so you don't see any of the thong under the ribbon.
4. Add three pea-sized drops of glue along the second half of the thong, from the middle to the base of the thong.
5. Wrap the ribbon around the middle of the thong, and continue to wrap the ribbon over the second half of the thong until you reach the base of the thong.
6. Cut off excess ribbon that is longer than the thong. Add a small pea-sized drop of glue on the very end of the ribbon, and press the end of the ribbon to the outside of the flip flop thong on the second half.
7. Clamp two clothes pins around the base of the thong on both the left and right side. The pressure from the clothes pins will ensure the ribbon properly, and permanently, glues to the flip flop thong.
8. Remove the hair bows from the hair clip attached to the back of the bows.
9. Place a dime-sized drop of craft glue to the middle of the thong. Also, place a dime-sized drop of craft glue to the back of the middle of the bow.
10. Place the glued-side of the bow directly on top of the glue on the thong. Press the bow down to adhere.
11. Clip two clothes pins onto either side of the bow and thong to secure the bow to the thong.
12. Repeat Steps 1 through 11 on your other flip flop. Allow your flip flops to dry for at least 12 hours to ensure the ribbon and bows are permanently glued to the thong.
13. Remove all eight clothes pins from your flip flops and slip them on.
