Ribbon roses make quick and easy decorations.
Ribbon roses are an excellent way to use any scrap ribbons or pieces of material that you have left over from other projects. Fabric or ribbon roses are a quick and easy way to add decoration to clothes, hair bows and other accessories. Group roses together to make small bunches to cover larger hair bows or leave them separate to add to a plain hair pin. Make roses out of thicker ribbon for larger blooms perfect for bouquets or to embellish the back of a dress.
Instructions
1. Cut a length of ribbon -- the longer the ribbon the larger the rose. For a ribbon that is 1.5 inches wide plan on using about 18 to 24 inches. A narrow ribbon will need less length.
2. Fold the ribbon in half and place on the table horizontally with the crease on the right and the two ends on the left.
3. Hold the crease with the right hand and pull the bottom piece straight down with the left hand to make a 90-degree angle.
4. Bring the piece pointing down up over the crease and upwards.
5. Fold the other end from the left side to the right side.
6. Alternate folding the ribbon over the center four or five times. The more folds the larger the rose.
7. Pinch under the folds to keep them together and pull one end of the ribbon. The rose will gather and you will end up with one end longer than the other.
8. Thread the needle and tie a knot at the end. Insert the needle in to the backside of the rose and exit through the center of the rose. Stitch a few times through the center to secure, exiting the back of the rose.
9. Sew the rose onto a hair bow or hair clip and tie a knot. Snip the end of the thread with scissors.
