Hair bows can easily form a disastrous mass of ribbon and clips if you do not keep them organized. You can fashion a straightforward bow organizer out of the same material you use to make the bows themselves: ribbon. Coordinate the ribbon organizer to the girl's bedroom where the bows will be displayed. The most attractive quality of the organizer is how easy it is to modify as the bow collection increases.
Instructions
1. Lay a trash bag on your work surface. Place a 12-inch dowel rod on the bag.
2. Apply one or two coats of craft paint to the dowel rod with a foam paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
3. Cut a 26-inch piece of 1-inch-wide ribbon with scissors.
4. Lay the ribbon in a V shape. Lay the dry dowel rod on top of the ribbon at the open end of the V. The rod should cover the ends of the ribbon only.
5. Apply a narrow line of hot glue near the edge of each end of the ribbon. Fold the ribbon over the bar. Press the glued end to the ribbon to make a tight loop around each end of the dowel rod. Allow the glue two minutes to dry. The ribbon is the hanger for the organizer.
6. Apply a pea-sized bead of hot glue to one end of the dowel rod. Press a drawer knob to the glue. Repeat this process on the other end of the rod. The knobs will keep the ribbon from sliding off the rod.
7. Cut two strips of 2-inch-wide ribbon with scissors. These ribbons will be the hanging streamers that hold the bows. The length you cut depends on how many bows you have to organize. Thirty-six inches is a suitable length for most organizers and will support about 12 medium-size bows.
8. Apply a narrow line of hot glue to one edge of each ribbon. Fold the ribbon over the dowel rod as you did to make the hanger. Press the glued end of the ribbon to form a tight loop around the rod.
9. Apply a narrow line of hot glue to the loose ends of each ribbon. Fold the glued ends over to make a one-quarter-inch hem at the end of each streamer to prevent fraying.
10. Embellish the ribbon with bow illustrations, the name of the recipient or other imagery with fabric paint markers, if desired.
