Make a single hair bow from different colored ribbons.
Make a curly hair bow and attach it to a large metal hair clip to use as a ponytail holder or attach it to a small plastic barrette to keep the wispy hairs out of a child's eyes. Customize the hair bow to make it any size you like and use ribbon colors that coordinate with her favorite outfits.
Instructions
1. Cut 20 pieces of 1/4-inch-wide ribbon, each to a length of 10 inches, for a small hair bow. Cut 30 pieces of 1/4-inch-wide ribbon, each to a length of 16 inches, for a larger hair bow.
2. Pin the end of each ribbon to the top of a 1/4-inch-wide wooden dowel. Use a heatproof clip to pin the ribbon to the dowel.
3. Coil each ribbon around the dowel tightly. Pin the other end of the ribbons to the dowels with another heatproof clip.
4. Place all of the ribbon-wrapped wooden dowels on a baking sheet and bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Take the baking sheet out of the oven and let the ribbons cool to room temperature.
5. Take the ribbons off the wooden dowels. Release the clips and gently pull the ribbons upward and off the dowels. Try not to uncoil the ribbons as you pull them off the dowels.
6. Gather all of the ribbons together side by side and wrap a piece of elastic cord or string around the center of the bunch of ribbons. Pull tightly and tie the string or cord in a knot. Tugging on the coiled ribbons will cause them to fan out in a circular shape for the hair bow. Make sure the ends of the ribbons are relatively even with one another.
7. Spread a moderately thick layer of glue across the top of the hair clip and press one side of the bunch of bows into the glue. Let the glue dry before using the hair bow.
