Create A Pinwheel Boutonniere

Pinwheels are a cost-effective alternative to floral arrangments.

Adding your own touches to the various elements of your wedding is what makes it a memorable standout event. Small details like pinwheel boutonnieres have the ability to make a huge a statement and burn your special day into the minds of every guest for years to come. A pinwheel boutonniere made from paper is a cost effective alternative to the floral version because it uses inexpensive materials and can be made entirely by you.

Instructions

1. Find a piece of scrapbook paper in the design and color of your choice. Choose a piece that has a different pattern or color on either side to add a two-tone look to your pinwheel boutonniere.

2. Cut a 4-by-4-inch square out of the piece of scrapbook paper with a pair of scissors. Use a ruler to ensure all the sides of the square are equal.

3. Cut slits in the paper square starting from each corner and going towards the center of the square. Cut approximately two-thirds of the way in, ensuring you leave enough paper in the middle of the square so that your pinwheel does not fall apart when you begin folding.

4. Fold every other corner into the center of the square. Place a push pin through the center of the pinwheel to hold the corners in place. This will allow the pinwheel to spin freely.

5. Cut an eraser into small squares. Push one of the squares onto the back of the exposed push pin. This will secure the pinwheel to the pin and keep it from jabbing into the chest of the person wearing it.

6. Use a hot glue gun to attach the pinwheel to a boutonniere pin. Boutonniere pins can be found at craft stores and fabric shops. Alternatively, you can glue the pinwheel to a large safety pin and secure it onto a suit jacket.
