Make Ear Systems

Some of the tools you'll need to make ear wraps.

Ear wraps are earrings that wrap around the ear and dangle down. You can wear ear wraps if you have pierced ears or not, which makes them a great choice for costumes and for people who don't wear earrings very often. Ear wraps can be inexpensive to make, since they don't require special findings, and they can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Use silver, gold or copper wire and your choice of beads, crystals or even feathers for the dangles.

Instructions

1. Grasp the wire approximately 2 1/2 inches from one end with the round-nosed pliers. Use the pliers to shape the wire around the pencil. Test the fit of this loop around the edge of your ear and adjust with the pliers if necessary.

2. Grasp the opposite end of the wire with the round-nosed pliers and gently bend it into a spiral, rolling the spiral up to within 1/2-inch of the first curve.

3. Slip three to four beads onto the head pin. Leave 1/2-inch of the head pin free.

4. Use the round-nosed pliers to shape a small loop in the end of the head pin.

5. Slip the split-ring over the end of the needle nose pliers. Open the pliers enough to force the split ring slightly apart.

6. Thread the loop in the end of the beaded head pin onto the split ring.

7. Slip the split ring onto the spiral in the ear wrap.

8. Use the needle nosed pliers to close the split ring.
