Use a velvet board and steamer
Velvet is a name given to a type of fabric structure with a short fuzzy texture on one side that is often made of silk, cotton or rayon. The material is relatively thick, making creases and wrinkles very apparent when they form. The standard way to go about removing wrinkles from velvet is to use a velvet or nap board with a steamer or iron on the low setting. A velvet board is a board with a rough coarse surface used for treating thick pile fabric such as velvet. The velvet should be placed face down onto the board (fuzzy side down) and the back can be lightly steamed or ironed with an iron set to the lowest possible heat setting. Only iron with warm or low heat, and only iron the backside. Never iron the fuzzy side directly, as it can ruin the velvet.
Using a shower and blow-dryer
Because steam and warm heat can be used to remove wrinkles from velvet, it is possible to remove wrinkles without buying special items such as a steamer or velvet board. Take a warm shower while the velvet is hung up in the bathroom, so that it is surrounded by steam. Let the velvet sit in the steam for 10 or 15 minutes, then use a blow-dryer set to warm heat to dry out the fabric. This should produce an effect similar to the tools in section one, making it a cheap alternative for wrinkle removal.
Soaking and natural drying
Another method to attempt to get wrinkles out of a piece of velvet is to soak the velvet with water and let it dry naturally. To do this, just lay the piece of velvet, fuzzy side down, on a table, inundate it with water, and stretch it out so that it is flat against the table. As it dries and the water evaporates, the wrinkles should be significantly reduced. It should be noted that this method may not work as well on full velvet garments, because they cannot be laid down perfectly flat, like a swatch of material can. This method is best used on scrap pieces of velvet to be reused to make new garments.
