While you can purchase elegant bows at many different stores, making the bows yourself saves money. Making your own bow also means you can create the bow using the fabric of your choice and the exact size and style you like. Whether the bow will be used on a wreath, as a household decoration or as a hair bow, put some finishing touches on it to make it look better and make sure it lasts a long time.
Instructions
1. Finish the ends of the ribbon where you cut the fabric. Use a liquid fray sealer and spray or dab the sealer onto the ends of the ribbon. This will stop the ribbon's fibers from unraveling. You can also seal the ends of the ribbon with clear nail polish. Alternatively, strike a match and hold it near the ends of the ribbon. Do not let the flame touch the ribbon, but simply hold it close enough to the ends of the ribbon to seal the ends.
2. Use a can of fabric stiffener spray to make sure the ribbon does not become droopy. Place the bow on a clean surface and spray it with the fabric stiffener. Let the ribbon dry completely before touching it or moving it. Make sure the bow looks the way you want it to before you spray it, as it will be difficult to fluff it and move it after the fabric stiffener sets.
3. Heat up your hot glue gun and place a glue stick inside it. Place a dab of hot glue at the center of the bow and add embellishments that coordinate with the bow. For example, add small Christmas ornaments or pine cones to the center of a holiday bow.
