Design An Art Purchase Booth

A successful crafts display will increase sales.

Craft shows are a popular event in most cities and towns and are a productive way to showcase your talent and make money from your unique creations. One of the most important aspects of making your booth a success is creating a strong presentation of your merchandise.

A thoughtfully designed booth combines smart planning and visual appeal. Its purpose is to draw customers to your craft table and allow you to make the most profit out of a small sales space.

Instructions

1. Request booth dimensions from craft show organizer to determine the size table and display items needed. Determine whether one large table or several small tables will be appropriate and ask if any tables will be provided on-site.

2. Cover tops of table (or tables) with colored table cloth. Using plastic clips or double-sided tape, add table skirt to cover the table to the floor. Use solid or neutral colors, which will allow your goods to stand out to customers.

3. Create a large sign, stating your business name and items for sale. Order a custom vinyl banner from a local sign shop -- if you feel it will be worth the investment -- or make your own sign using poster board, stencils and poster paint. Attach the sign or banner to a wall behind your booth, or to the front of the main table using double-sided tape or ribbon.

4. Add visual interest with height. Cover empty boxes or wooden blocks with fabric in a similar color to tablecloth. Display the largest and most visually appealing objects on the highest blocks to grab a shopper's attention from a distance.

5. Visit thrift stores to find items that will make a more interesting display. Consider an item such as a coat rack or a small rolling rack to display handmade purses or scarves.

6. Decorate your booth with small personal touches, such as fresh or silk flowers, or scatter beads and sea shells on the table. Place pretty picture frames on the table to showcase photos of past craft projects or people wearing your designs.

7. Add extra appeal by offering free samples of your wares, or small items such as potpourri sachets or wrapped candy. Entice people to visit booth with a free offer and then engage them in conversation about the items you have for sale.
