Twisted Hair Bow Instructions

A twisted hair bow is also known as a boutique bow.

A twisted hair bow is often called a boutique hair bow, and it can be made with two pieces of the same color or different color ribbon. This type of bow is usually done with thicker ribbon (about 7/8 inches) because it can look like a fairly simple bow. It can be done with thinner ribbon as well, but won't be as prominent and dramatic when finished.

Instructions

1. Cut two pieces of ribbon, about 11 inches long. Fold one ribbon so it's stacked on top of itself and cut the ends in the same direction at about a 45 degree angle. Repeat with the other piece of ribbon.

2. Seal the ends of the ribbons with a lighter.

3. Lay one ribbon flat on your working surface. Be sure the ribbon is at about a 45 degree angle or more and that the top end of the ribbon, the part that's furthest from you, is facing toward the left.

4. Pull the left end of the ribbon, the part that's farthest away from you, and loop it towards you and back onto itself in the center of the ribbon. Secure it with a bobby pin or another type of clip. The end of the ribbon that's been looped should be facing away from you and the end should be flush.

5. Repeat with the right side by pulling the ribbon up and forming a loop. Place the end on top of the other piece of ribbon in the center. Hold the center with your fingers and then secure both parts with a bobby pin or a clip.

6. Repeat this process with your second ribbon. You should now have two figure-eight shapes of ribbons.

7. Place one ribbon at a 45 degree angle and the other ribbon directly on top of the first ribbon in an opposite 45 degree angle. You'll have four loops of two different colors, if you chose to use different colored ribbons.

8. Remove both clips from the ribbons and secure both ribbons together with another clip.

9. Wrap elastic thread around the center of the ribbons to create a scrunching effect. Secure and knot the elastic thread so that both ribbons are held together with it.

10. Remove the clip that was holding the ribbons together.

11. Put a few drops from a hot glue gun on the back of the bow. Attach an alligator clip or a French barrette to the bow.
