Hello Kitty is a popular cartoon character among girls. Her primary focus being friendship, Hello Kitty is also used in many fashion items, such as clothing, backpacks and purses. Make your own Hello Kitty purse without spending a great deal of money. Use scraps of material that you already have or purchase clearance material from the fabric store. With a few additional supplies, you can make a Hello Kitty purse in about a day and give it to a special little girl in your life.
Make a Pattern
Make a pattern for your Hello Kitty purse using tissue or wax paper. Determine how large you want your Hello Kitty bag and shoulder strap to be, then draw the lines for the bag and strap on the paper. For the strap, measure from the shoulder to the hip of the person that will be wearing it, double that measurement for the strap front and back, then add 2 inches for connecting the strap to the bag. Transfer the pattern to your material.
Construction
Sew together the bag portion of the purse using a sewing machine. Turn the bag right side out and sew a ½-inch hem around the top of the bag. Install a zipper across the top of the bag. Then sew your strap together along the length of the material. Turn the material right side out and hem the ends closed. Attach the strap to the sides of the bag using a needle and thread.
Hello Kitty
Draw out the shape of your Hello Kitty character on white felt, then cut it out. Attach the character form to the front of the bag with fabric glue. Then outline your character with black fabric paint. Cut clothes and a hair bow out of felt. Apply the bow and clothes to the figure with fabric glue, outlining them with the black fabric paint.
Embellishments
Add fringe to the bottom of the bag as desired. The fringe color should match the color of Hello Kitty's clothing and compliment the color of the material used for the bag. You can also add ribbon around the edges of the bag or along the shoulder strap as needed. In addition, use fabric glue to glue on craft beads around the figure of Hello Kitty to draw attention to the character.
