Tuxedo hair bows can be made from many different colors, patterns and types of ribbon and are frugal ways to make use of scraps of ribbon left from other projects. Girls who enjoy hair bows love having a wide collection of tuxedo bows to match any outfit. Moms can make tuxedo bows in the team colors to distribute to girls on a sports team, cheerleading squad or dance group to wear on their event days to build team spirit.
Instructions
1. Cut a 9-inch piece of ribbon measuring 1 1/2 inches wide and lay it flat on the work surface.
2. Bring the cut ends of ribbon into the center and overlap them by about 1/2 inch.
3. Glue the lower end of the ribbon to the center of the piece of ribbon. Glue the upper end of ribbon to the lower one. You can use either craft glue or hot glue for this step. Allow the bow to dry.
4. Cut a 4-inch piece of ribbon measuring at least 1 inch wide. It can be the same ribbon used for the first part of the bow or a different one.
5. Wrap the ribbon once around the center of the bow, overlapping the ends 1 inch. The bow should still be completely flat.
6. Glue the bottom end of this piece of ribbon to the bow, covering its overlap in the center. Then glue the top end of this ribbon to its bottom end.
7. Glue a barrette or another type of hair clip to the bow on the back side where the ribbons overlap one another.
