There are all kinds of projects you can do with your students.
Themed holiday crafts can be a fun way to interest kids in a new subject. They also work great as quick projects to keep students entertained. Valentine projects typically feature the ever-popular heart motif, but talented young artists might even brave attempts at drawing cherubs or Eros with his bows and arrows.
Classroom Decorations
A fun group project for students might consist of making an Eros-themed mural. This could even be tied into a lesson on mythology. The teacher can use colored paper to cut out the shape of Eros, also known as Cupid, and have students decorate it by adding straw hair, plastic eyes, cloth or whatever they like. Then, each student can cut out an arrow on colored paper, which he will then decorate. Students can practice their spelling by writing their valentines on the arrows.
Woven Hearts
Kids enjoy having a cute box or envelope to stash their candy and cards in. A simple but attractive project uses colored paper to make a heart-shaped envelope. You will need two sheets of paper, as wide as a typical legal-sized page but twice as long. Have the students fold each paper in half lengthwise. Help the students cut a rounded half circle at the end that is not folded. Cut two lines up each sheet, so that there are three evenly spaced strips of paper at the folded end. Weave each sheet together by folding one paper strip over then under the paper strip on the other sheet. Do this until the heart is finished and it should be a tightly woven, attractive envelope.
Picture Frames
Help your students remember their fun day. Take photos of the students playing and working with their friends and classmates and print them out. Give your students felt sheets and help them cut out picture frames for their favorite image. They can make circles, squares, hearts or whatever shapes strike their fancy, then decorate it with touches of ribbon, pom-poms, shaped foam stickers--or even doll hair, googly eyes and other doll parts. When the frames are done, help the students glue a photo in their frame. Add no-glue magnets and you're done!
