Create a romantic Valentine's Day-themed wedding by incorporating the traditional colors and symbols of the day into your ceremony and reception. Use a color scheme of dark red, white and various shades of pink. Include Valentine's Day symbols into your decor as well, like roses, hearts, doves and cupid. Remember to book your venues and vendors early, though, since Valentine's Day is an in-demand day for weddings.
Symbols
Use hearts as a recurring motif at your reception. Cut out heart-shaped photographs of married couples from your families, and post them on a board near the guest book. Have heart-shaped candies, wrapped in red or pink foil, as guest favors. Accent napkins with white doves or love birds; use them for the cake topper as well. Sprinkle dove-shaped, cupid-shaped or heart-shaped confetti on the tables at the reception for a festive Valentine's Day touch.
Menu
Provide a menu of romantic foods and beverages. Serve oysters and prawns as appetizers. Consider having heart-shaped sandwiches available if you are having a buffet. Include several dessert options, such as a white chocolate fountain with strawberries for dipping, heart-shaped cookies, and a white wedding cake decorated with roses and/or hearts. Have plenty of champagne on hand for the guests to toast the new bride and groom.
Flowers
Use an abundance of roses for your Valentine's Day-themed wedding. Select red, pink and white roses for bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. Create garlands and heart-shaped wreaths made of roses to decorate the ceremony and reception sites. Accent bouquets and boutonnieres with glitter hearts dispersed among the roses; back corsages with pieces of lace. Tie velvet ribbons in red or white around bouquets. If you cannot afford roses, any medium- to large-sized bloom will do; carnations are cheaper alternatives.
Decorations
Use a lot of candles to set the mood with romantic lighting. Consider gathering five or six taper candles in crystal candle holders at the center of reception tables for centerpieces. Opt for red table linens with smaller lace tablecloths on top. Tie lace and ribbon bows around the back of the chairs for a decorative, romantic accent. Drape ribbon and lace around the guest book table, the gift table and the head table, where the bride and groom will be seated, to add even more Valentine's Day decor.
