Good Preteen Pageant Hair styles

Having the right hairstyle to fit your face is an important pageant element.

Pageant competition, regardless of what title you're going after, typically involves elements of fashion, style, personality and charm. The way in which you dress and present yourself during a pageant gives the judges a visual glimpse into who you are. Making sure you have the right hair and makeup is essential to completing a look. For younger girls, such as pre-teens, hairstyles should be age appropriate yet stylish.

Bun

A tightly wound and slicked back bun is an up-do hairstyle option suitable for pre-teens. Sweeping all the hair off the face, and tightly winding it places an emphasis on the face. This style works best with medium length hair that's wavy or straight. Making sure only a few tendrils frame the face help make this an age-appropriate hairstyle. This style also is suitable for wearing a crown, as your hair isn't the center of attention.

Sleek Ponytail

One pre-teen style that's stood the test of time is a sleek ponytail. For casual and swimsuit portions of a pageant, opt for a ponytail higher up on the head. For evening wear or gown portions, a nape of the neck ponytail, where all flyaway hairs have been slicked back, can draw attention to your face and neck. This style also helps show off a crown on your head.

Updo

Similar to a bun, an up-do can pull the hair off the face and show off eyes and cheekbones. You can pull all hair high up the crown of the head and allow ringlets of waves to cascade toward the forehead, cheeks and back of the neck. If you keep your up-do loose, the look is suitable for pre-teens. You can also add barrettes, hair clips or bows.

Natural

One option for pre-teens is to simply allow hair to remain in a natural, everyday style. This works best when you're in a pageant that has a casual feel and no formal wear is involved. You can fix your hair as you normally would, sticking with a hairstyle that represents your personal sense of style. Using this option sends a message that being who you are is acceptable and beautiful.
