Wrapping paper should be stored for easy access.
Christmas wrapping paper is only used one month out of the year; during the remainder of the year, the wrapping and accouterments must be stored away. During December, you want it to be easily accessible, while the other 11 months it needs to be stored effortlessly and easily. From bags to boxes to storage bins, plenty of options will work for your Christmas wrapping supplies.
Wrapping Paper
Keep your paper from getting torn and crunched by keeping it securely on the rolls. Roll the paper tightly and slip two or three rubber bands on the tube; slip them down the roll so they are evenly spaced. Purchase a storage container specifically designed for wrapping paper; they stand up tall with a flip top and will handle most lengths of wrapping paper. If you don't want to purchase a specialized container, use a large plastic trash can to slip the rolls into. You can easily carry the can from room to room, or slip in to a closet out of sight.
Ribbon
Spools of ribbon can easily come unwrapped if you aren't careful. Always secure the ends of the ribbon so they don't get tangled. Tape works well for curling ribbon, while a straight pin can hold cloth or fabric ribbon. If you have dozens of ribbon spools, set up a peg board with long hooks sticking out from it; slip a spool on each hook. You can permanently place the board on the wall, or temporarily lean it against the wall on the floor. If you only have a few spools, slide them down a paper towel holder; they will easily unwrap while still staying on the holder.
Bows
Pre-made bows are simple to put on packages but they can easily get crushed underneath other gift wrapping supplies. Use a bin or shoebox to keep the bows safe; simply put the bows in the container and place it on a table. Label the box for easy identification.
Small Spaces
If you don't have a lot of room to keep your gift wrapping essentials out in the open, use something that doesn't take up any floor or table space. Invest in a cheap over-the-door shoe organizer -- the many different pockets are perfect for holding the many things you need. Bows, ribbon, scissors, tape and gift tags fit well; most shoe organizers are clear, so items are easily found.
