Create A Tuxedo Bow

Make your own tuxedo bow hair accessories.

Most little girls love bows and hair accessories. However, store-bought items can be costly and are easily lost. As a fun and frugal alternative, tuxedo bow hair accessories are easy to craft at home. With a little adult supervision, children can make their own bows. All you need is a few leftover bits of ribbon and some household items to craft hair bows to match every outfit and occasion or give to friends as gifts.

Instructions

1. Run a flame along the edges of the ribbons to prevent fraying. Make sure an adult supervises this step.

2. Fold the length of larger ribbon over to make a circle. Allow the ends to overlap.

3. Push the middle of the circle down so that it is touching the two overlapping ends; there should be loops on both sides of your thumb and forefinger. You should also be sandwiching three pieces of ribbon together: the two overlapping sides and the middle of the circle.

4. Turn the bow so that the front is facing you.

5. Cinch the middle of the bow from the top to the bottom and clip your hairclip over the middle; this will keep the ribbon in place while you secure it with wire. Use a crocodile hairclip that opens when its two ends are pressed together. A big fold in the middle will give your bow a sturdy, attractive shape.

6. Move the hairclip to the side so that the centre of the bow is exposed.

7. Wrap the wire around the bow's center and twist the ends together.

8. Snip off the excess with wire cutters and release the hairclip. The ribbon should be held in place by the wire.

9. Tie a knot in the center of the thin ribbon and glue it to the middle of the front of the bow, over the wire.

10. Open the hairclip by pressing the two ends together and tuck one leg of the hairclip under the wire at the back of the bow.

11. Wrap the thin ribbon around the bow's center, pulling the ends from the front to the back, and glue the ends together over the leg of the clip that is under the wire. The other leg of the hairclip should be free to slide into the hair and clasp it to the bow.

12. Snip off any excess pieces of ribbon.
