Make a wire ribbon bow for a hat.
Making homemade ribbon bows can seem challenging. Wired ribbon makes beautiful bows because it has thin wires running alone both edges of the ribbon. When you make a bow with wired ribbon, the loops of the bow will stay where you arrange them and your bow will have a more finished and professional appearance. Embellish a hat with a large wire ribbon bow to add a touch of texture and color to your hat.
Instructions
1. Measure 12 inches from one end of the ribbon (makes one of the ribbon tails) and make an 8-inch loop at this point. Twist the loop twice at the base of the loop (the wire will hold the twist in place). Make another loop the same size so the two loops are opposite each other. Twist the base of this loop and hold both loops with your index finger and thumb between the two loops.
2. Make four more 8-inch loops, twisting each loop at the base. You will have six bow loops when you finish, with three loops on each side, and the remaining ribbon will form the second 12-inch tail.
3. Pull the end of the ribbon over the center area of the loops (over your thumb) and to the underside of the loops to make the center of the bow.
4. Insert the end of the floral wire through the center of the bow (under the ribbon you just positioned over your thumb) and pull the ends of the floral wire to the back of the bow.
5. Twist the ends of the floral wire tightly together and then twist the entire bow two to three times after you twist the floral wire.
6. Arrange the loops on the top of the bow, pulling them out at various angles to make a full and attractive bow. With the wired ribbon, the loops will stay as you position them.
7. Attach the bow to your hat. Find the ideal spot for the bow and push the ends of the wire through the hat to the inside of the hat. Twist the floral wire several times together inside the hat to hold the bow in place. Clip off any excess floral wire with the wire cutters.
