Emo is a subculture that grew out of the "emotional hardcore" music scene in the 1980s and has become a polarizing part of youth culture in the millennium. Emo has a distinct look, similar to goth and skateboarding culture, but with its own nuances.
Emo hair for women is predominantly dyed jet-black, or black with streaks of other colors. It is often teased, spiked or back-combed and often incorporates bows or headbands.
Long
One option for Emo style hair for women is long, straight hair with a messy texture on the crown. To accomplish this look, straighten your hair with a flat iron then back-comb the first few inches of hair along the crown to add height and texture. Spray with hairspray to set.
Additional length for this look can be added using hair extensions.
Short
Side-swoop bangs create the most classic Emo girl look, and is more practical for skater girls. To achieve this, blow dry using a gel or mousse to create texture along the crown and then straighten your bangs across the forehead. Use a hairspray for extra hold.
Color and accessories
Another option for color is chunks of blond and brown. To achieve this look, separate sections of your hair and apply various shades of color to create a differentiated pallet.
Accessories add a cute touch to Emo hair. Try a headband, with or without a bow, worn behind your bangs and in front of back-combed or textured hair. A baby doll clip worn on the bangs over top the ear is another option.
