With our society's ever-increasing desire to renew materials as opposed to depleting more of our natural resources, gift-wrapping has become an exercise in recycle materials while still managing to make a pleasing presentation. Creating bows from magazine pages allows you to not only recycle paper materials, but also customize the look of your gifts with everything from full-page movie ads to fashion photography.

1. Choose a magazine page featuring graphics, colors or text you feel would be appropriate for your gift.
2. Cut your magazine page lengthwise into nine strips. Keep the width of each strip between 3/4 inch and 1 inch. As you cut, visualize what portions of the page you'd most like to be visible so you avoid cutting through a face or word you'd like to keep intact.
3. Trim roughly an inch from three of the strips and two inches from two additional strips.
4. Cut one of the strips down to 3 3/4 inches long. This will serve as the center of your bow, so choose the area of the page for this strip that you most want to highlight. For instance, if your bow is made from a full-color magazine ad promoting a film, you may choose to center this piece around the main character's face.
5. Check to make sure you have three full-length strips, three strips that are 1 inch shorter, two strips that are 2 inches short, and one strip that is 3 3/4 inches long.
6. Create each twist-loop by twisting one end to meet in the middle of the strip. Secure with your thumb and twist the remaining end to form one twist-loop. The finished loop will resemble a figure eight.
7. Secure the ends of the twist-loop with a glue dot.
8. Continue to create twist-loops for all remaining strips with the exception your shortest, center strip.
9. Form a circular loop with your shortest piece and secure with a glue dot.
10. Create the bow by placing the largest three strips together in your bow formation. Secure each one with a glue dot.
11. Place the next largest size of loops atop the larger loops. Secure each with a glue dot.
12. Attach the center loop in the middle of the bow construction. Secure with a glue dot.
13. Place your bow on your gift by using a large glue dot positioned on the center, underside of the bow.
