Create a gift that a girl can use to play make believe.
Whether you have a beloved daughter, niece or just a special little friend, you may have noticed that little girls often love anything they deem as "cute." Cute can encompass a wide range of objects from a fuzzy bunny to a new dress or a glittery hair bow. Then next time you want a homemade gift for the girl in your life, choose from one of the many options, and use your crafting talents to create a gift she'll treasure.
Hair Accessories
Little girls often have long hair that their mothers fix in a ponytail, topknot or pigtails. To create these hairdos, it's necessary to use accessories to fasten the hair into place. Buy several plain hair barrettes and glue glitter, rhinestones or sequins to them to add a touch of bling. Alternatively, purchase several wide elastic headbands and sew strips of decorative ribbons to them to create patterns on the headband or attach a big, bold bow. Pink, purple and red add a dramatic look against a black or white headband.
Stuffed Animals
Most little girls have a collection of stuffed animals of which they're very proud. You can add a new member to their group with a knitted or crocheted animal you've created yourself. Obtain a pattern for a cuddly figure such as a sheep, bunny, monkey or bird, and use your skills to complete the project. If your DIY skills are sub-par or you're pressed for time, head to the local store that allows you to build your own stuffed animal on the spot. Add extras and accessories that mimic those of your little friend such as a tennis racket, flute or matching purse and shoes.
Imaginary Play Items
When you're skilled at construction, why not build a playhouse for your daughter or niece? Create a simply designed structure made from plywood, paint it a pastel color and add a shingled roof. A dutch door, porch and windows that open are cute touches that make her home away from home particularly realistic. Alternatively, create a kitchen stove and refrigerator from cardboard boxes that she can use during her imaginary play time. Cover them with patterned contact paper or gift wrap in a floral pattern for an adorably girlie look.
Clothing
While there are plenty of cute clothes in the stores for little girls, creating a garment or two for her yourself allows you to personalize the items. Choose a T-shirt in her favorite color, and use fabric paint to create a cute design on it. Personalize it with her name and a sunburst design to make it apparent to all that she's a star. If you'd rather, purchase a pair of jeans in her size and add sequins, studs and jewels to mimic the designs that she's seen the older girls in the neighborhood wearing.
