Handmade barrettes can be trimmed with ribbons or beads. They are a popular and inexpensive gift item that sells well in clothing stores and craft fairs. Display your barrette creations on cards which can be hung on either a display rack or a wall display. This allows you to organize your display, while making each individual barrette stand out. The card also provides a good place to display the price and your contact information.
Instructions
1. Lay the barrette on the table with the clasp facing down and running horizontally. Measure the total width and height of the embellished barrette. The width is the horizontal dimension; the height is the vertical dimension.
2. Add 2 inches to the height to calculate the minimum dimensions of the barrette card. The extra 2 inches allows space for a hole for the hanging peg. Cut a card with at least these dimensions.
3. Turn the barrette over and open the clasp. Measure the width and length of the part of the clasp that sticks up on each end. These are the clasp and hinge of the barrette. Your hole punch should make a hole slightly larger than the largest of these measurements. Close the barrette.
4. Center the barrette on the card so that the top edge of the barrette is 2 inches below the top of the card. Mark where the clasp and hinge of the barrette touch the card with a pencil.
5. Punch a hole through the card at each pencil mark. Punch a hole in the center of the card 1/2 inch from the top edge for hanging.
6. Open the barrette and stick the bar through one hole and the clasp through the other hole. Pull the bar through until the card reaches the hinge. Close the barrette to hold it on the card.
