Begin A Hairbow Business

Hairbows are popular purchases for mothers of young daughters

Adorable little hairbows are popular with parents of babies, toddlers and young girls. Making hairbows has become easier than ever to do thanks to online tutorials that show you how. A hairbow business can be a fun and lucrative side business for stay-at-home moms, entrepreneur types or anyone who is looking to start a business with a low up-front cost.

Instructions

1. Select the type of market where you will sell your hairbows. Choose to sell hairbows at an online marketplace like Etsy, or sell them in boutiques and stores. A hairbow maker can easily find boutiques and stores at the local level by looking through the local yellow pages. Then they must market their hairbows by visiting boutique owners and asking if they can bring in the bows on a consignment basis first. A business card and portfolio or samples of your work can help you look professional.

2. Write a mission statement. The BowBusiness website suggests writing a mission statement that conveys the type of service your customers will receive from your business.

3. Create a bow inventory. You can stock inventory by making bows yourself using basic supplies (ribbon, clips, hot glue and accessories) or you can purchase bows at a wholesale price and resell them if you feel that you do not want to make your own bows. If you have the funds, purchase supplies from a bulk dealer or wholesale store. With all the suppplies, you are able to make quite a bit of back stock. Otherwise, a craft shop can easily get you started. A stock of at least four or five of each design is ideal.

4. Market your business. Market your hairbows to local boutiques, stores or through online retailers and auction sites. You can also ask friends and family to spread the word that you have a hairbow business. Always carry samples and a business card with you to give to potential customers.
