Train Your Pet To Consider A Bow

My dog Corey, taking a bow

Dogs really are man's (and woman's, and children's) best friends and dog is happiest when pleasing its family. Learning new tricks can really be a fun time of bonding between dog and master. These steps will show you teach your dog to take a bow.

Instructions

1. Dogs naturally take the stance of a "bow" when they are stretching their front legs. Pay attention and take notice of when your dog does this.

2. Every time your dog stretches into the "bow" position, say "Take a bow" in an upbeat, cheery voice.

3. After you say "Take a bow," lavish your dog with praise. Let your dog know you are pleased with words of praise, lots of petting and perhaps a treat.

4. Repeat these steps every time your dog stretches into the "bow" position over the period of one week. It may take more or less time, depending on the age of your dog, how much of a pleaser your dog is and how frequently you follow these steps.

5. After a week, try out the new trick. Tell your dog to "Take a bow" in the same upbeat, cheery voice you have been using all week. Make sure to pour on the praise and treats when your pooch follows through.
