Use Christmas-themed ribbon for a holiday hair accessory.
You can make flower loop hair bows to coordinate with every outfit in the closet. Make the hair bows for a child or let your youthful side show by adding the hair bow to a low ponytail, placing it just above your ear or on top of the hair elastic. Use a sturdy fabric ribbon for a hair bow that holds its shape well or add a little bit of fusible interfacing to make a satin or silk fabric ribbon stiffer.
Instructions
1. Cut five pieces of 1/2 inch-wide ribbon, each to a length of 10 inches. Use a fray-stop product to seal the ends of each piece of ribbon.
2. Gather the pieces together on top of one another and align the ends so that they are even. Fold the gathered ribbons in half to find the center point of the ribbons.
3. Insert a sewing needle through the center of the bunch of ribbons. Slide the ribbons onto the needle until they reach the middle of the needle.
4. Fan out the ribbons evenly and place a small two-prong clip onto the center of the ribbons at the needle so that one prong goes on either side of the needle to hold the ribbons in place.
5. Fold one of the ribbons upward to make a loop and cross the ribbon over the center by sliding it onto the needle. Repeat this step to make a loop from each of the ribbons.
6. Make another loop from the remainder of each ribbon and slide the end of each ribbon onto the needle.
7. Insert a small length of thread through the sewing needle and tie the end in a thick knot. Push the ribbons down further on the needle and onto the thread until they reach the knot. Make three or four stitches through the center of the bows to keep the ribbons secure.
8. Insert the sewing needle back through the ribbon center from the bottom without breaking the thread. Keep the ribbon on the end of the sewing needle.
9. Repeat the above steps using 9-inch lengths of ribbon to make a second tier for the flower loop hair bow.
10. Slide the second tier of the hair bow off the needle and onto the thread. Make several stitches to secure the tiers together and make a knot in the thread. Cut the thread.
11. Place a button in the center of the hair bow. Insert a needle with thread through the bottom of the bow and into one of the holes in the button. Make several stitches through the hair bow and button to secure the button onto the hair bow.
12. Cover the top of a hair clip with some glue from a hot glue gun and press the hair bow firmly against the hair clip. Hold the bow in place for 20 to 30 seconds and then let the glue dry for 30 to 60 minutes before wearing.
