Scene-bandannas can also be worn in the back pocket or around the neck.
The 1980s style is back in action and with it comes glitter-eye shadow, teased hair, guitar solos and the bandanna. Bandannas can be worn several ways in the new age "scenester" style, the most popular being wrapped up in a mess of teased and knotted rocker hair.
Instructions
1. Prep your bandanna. Lay your bandanna on a flat surface so that it looks like a triangle. Fold the bottom point up 2 to 4 inches, depending on your preference. Take the fold you just made and fold it up again the same length you folded it initially. Continue doing this until your bandanna becomes a long line with two pointed ends.
2. Part your hair. Part your hair as you normally would to begin. Using the back of a teasing comb, section off 4 to 5 inches of hair from the beginning of your hairline backwards and brush it towards your face. Make sure there is an even line separating the hair you have pushed forward and the hair you have kept back. Tie up the hair that you have brushed away from your face so that it sits in a neat ponytail.
3. Tie your bandanna. Place your bandanna behind your head and bring it up to the top of your head so that it now rests behind both your ears. The pointed ends of the bandanna should be facing the top of your head. Tie the bandanna into a soft knot. With the edges of the bandanna left over, bring them over the knot and tie them into a bow or loose knot so that the edges hang in a rockabilly style.
4. Style the rest of your hair. Release your hair from the hair tie and brush it down. Take a teasing comb or small-toothed comb and grab a strand of your hair about 3 inches thick. Spray your hair with hairspray 6 inches away from the strand. Combing from the underneath of your hair, begin pulling your hair towards your scalp in small, repeated strokes. Continue doing this to the strand until it is at a desired thickness. It will look like a puffball at first, but will be fixed. Do this to the top layer of your hair that was kept back in the hair tie.
5. Using a regular hairbrush, lightly brush over all of the teased area so that it loosens the look of the tease. Liberally apply hairspray on all teased areas.
