A plain t-shirt is your canvas for paint and embellishment to create a trendy shirt design.
Shirt designs are a great way of self-expression. A design can be anything from a painted figure to a fashion sketch to finger painting. Fabric paint is a great media to use, as it's versatile, bright, and opaque. Permanent marker is another option that's fast, simple and best for block-like sharp designs. Better detail is achieved by using permanent marker, and blending is only possible using paint. Whatever your choice of medium and with an abstract design you can be sure of a cool and trendy shirt.
Instructions
1. Lay the clean, plain shirt on a flat surface.
2. Use the chalk to draw your design on the t-shirt. It could be anything from a woman in a dress to a blocked-out area that will be blobs of color, but plan out the size and placement with the chalk. Making your design larger will increase the impact of the design on the shirt.
3. Use the fabric paint to fill in your design. You can blend the paint, make abstract intertwining shapes, create a splatter effect or paint a person's face.
4. Allow the paint to dry, then wipe the chalk off with your hand.
5. Embellish the design or the t-shirt with ribbon, either tied into bows and glued on with a tiny dot of fabric glue or sewn on. To sew on the ribbon, lay the ribbon on the shirt where you'd like it, creating curves and shapes with one or more pieces of ribbon. Sew the ribbon down the center of the ribbon, setting it into place.
6. Add crystals to your design by placing a small dot of fabric glue where you'd like the crystal to be placed. The size of the glue dot should not exceed the size of the crystal. Arrange the crystals in rows, covering one area completely, in a starburst pattern, or spaced out over the shirt.
7. Paint on top of your design, the ribbon or crystals for an abstract and trendy feeling.
8. Add permant marker details if desired.
