It is almost a guarantee that at some point your small child will have an accident on the car seat. This can happen even to the most careful parents, as diapers can leak for a variety of reasons.
Getting the urine smell out of the car seat can be a challenge, so cleaning it correctly is very important. Follow these steps to make sure your car seat is cleaned well and free of urine odor.
Instructions
1. Remove the car seat from the car for easier access and place it on an old sheet or blanket. If your car seat is hard to take apart and re-install, you can still clean it quite well from inside the car, without removing it.
2. Remove the car seat cover and wash it in the gentle cycle of your washing machine, following manufacturer's washing instructions. It is better to let it air dry rather than risk shrinkage by putting it in the dryer.
3. Soak a clean sponge in water, then put a dab of detergent on it and squeeze out excess water. Scrub the sponge over the fouled area, cleaning the urine from the car seat thoroughly.
4. Rinse the soap from the sponge with clean water, and use it to scrub the area again to remove the soap from the seat.
5. In a small plastic or metal bowl place about a tablespoon of baking soda and dilute it with water. Dip the sponge into the mixture, squeeze out excess, then scrub the affected area of the car seat with it. Wipe the car seat with a dry towel, soaking up as much moisture as you can.
6. Spritz the affected area of the car seat with the natural cleaner spray. Let the car seat air dry, or use a hair dryer. When the car seat is completely dry, re-apply the washed car seat cover. If you removed the car seat from the car to clean, re-install it following the manufacturer's instructions.
