Make M2mg Hair Bows

Make M2MG Hair Bows

M2MG, or "made to match Gymboree," hair bows are a hot item these days and are often sold for a premium price. Many parents and children who are fans of the Gymboree clothing line want to have matching hair accessories to complete the outfit, and sellers of children's items love to stock their stores with them. Whether you sell M2MG hair bows or want some to match your daughter's favorite outfit, you can save money by making them yourself.

Instructions

1. Choose three to four colors from the piece of Gymboree clothing, or clothing line, that you want to match. If you are making M2MG hair bows for a line of Gymboree clothing that you don't already own, you can visit a local Gymboree store to see the colors, or visit the Gymboree website.

2. Select three different widths of ribbon that have the colors you want to use. You can mix different patterns, but make sure you choose patterns that complement the design of clothing. You want to match the Gymboree clothing, not overpower it.

3. Cut three pieces from the widest ribbon and three pieces from the middle-sized ribbon. The pieces from the wide ribbon should be about 1 inch longer than the pieces from the middle-sized ribbon. The actual length of the pieces depends on how big you want your hair bow to be. Longer pieces will make a bigger bow.

4. Fold one segment of the widest ribbon so that the edges slightly overlap in the center. Hand stitch across the center of the folded ribbon and pull the thread to cinch it. Wrap the thread several times around the center of the bow, tie it off and cut it. Repeat with the other two segments of wide ribbon.

5. Place all three segments of ribbon together side-by-side and line up their centers. Sew them together by pushing the needle through the center of each piece and pulling the thread through. Wrap the thread around the center a few times, tie it off and cut it.

6. Repeat the above steps with the pieces of the middle-sized ribbon. When you are done, you should have two bow pieces, one slightly smaller than the other.

7. Stack the two hair bow pieces with the smaller bow on top. Cut a piece of the narrow ribbon long enough to wrap around the hair bow and overlap about 1/4 inch in the back.

8. Take the clasp off of the hair bow clip and place the top of the clip on the back of the bow. Wrap the narrow ribbon around the bow and hot glue the edges together on the bottom side of the clip.

9. Put the clasp back onto the clip and shape the loops of ribbon with your fingers to finish your M2MG hair bow.
