Make Ribbon Hair Clips

Every mother enjoys using beautiful ribbons to decorate her daughter's hair, but purchasing a handmade ribbon to match each outfit can get quite cost prohibitive. Through these few easy steps, you can make beautiful ribbons, such as these ribbon-covered snap clips, for your daughter's hair and avoid having it become a financial burden.

Instructions

make ribbon-covered snap clips

1. Cut the ribbon into a 14-inch length and seal both ends with glue. Fold the ribbon in half and make a crease at the halfway mark. Open your first snap clip and place a dot of glue on the upper side of tip of the unbent side. Place the center of the ribbon (where the crease is) on the dot of glue, press firmly and allow to dry.

2. Take the right side of the ribbon and begin to weave it through the hole in the clip at an angle. Pull on the ribbon tightly with each turn, and try to make each loop around the edge uniform. Continue weaving the ribbon until you get to the big bottom edge of the clip. Place a strip of glue along the bottom edge of the end of the clip. Take the ribbon, place it across the strip of glue and apply pressure.

3. Flip the clip over and weave the ribbon through the other side of the clip as done in Step 3. Once completed, place a drop of glue at the top of the clip and crisscross the ribbon over the top of the clip and press the ribbon firmly over the drop of glue. Wrap the two ends of the ribbon around the fat end of the clip until it is covered completely, and glue the tips of the ribbon to the bottom side of the clip. Repeat the procedure for the second clip.

4. Once the clips are covered, create your hair bow with the 1/4-inch matching ribbon and place a drop of glue on the knot in the middle of the bow. If unsure what type of bow to make, simply tie a bow as if tying a shoelace as a starting point.
