Clipping your Toddler's Nails
Seeing the clippers is scary for any toddler especially when they find out you are going to use the clippers on them. Getting your toddler to relax can be a difficult task when they are scared to death. Some children have no problem with nail clipping. Other's do. Here's deal with nail clipping problems.
Instructions
Clip Your Toddler's Nails
1. Explain to him that his nails are growing too long. You can show him how the nails will rub against his toes especially when he is wearing shoes. He will get painful sores on his feet if this happens. If he does get sores then he will need medical attention.
2. Clip your nails in front of her to show your toddler that this process is not painful. Also reassure her that you will be very careful and you will only clip her nail and nothing else. Once they see you clipping and not screaming out in pain your child will be more likely to let you try the clippers on her.
3. Offer a reward for letting you do this. This will help out a lot if this is her first time getting her nails clipped. This also works very well for older children. You can discuss with your child what kind of reward she would like. If you go this way you will most likely have to offer up a reward every time you do her nails until she is a lot older.
4. Ask another sibling or a friend of your toddlers to let you clip his nails. Sometimes when kids see other kids doing something they think that is not that bad. Just make sure that you do not accidentally make the other child scream out in pain for some reason or it will be extremely difficult to clip toddler's nails for a long time.
5. Hold him down. This is a last scenario if nothing else works. If you can get help that would be a good idea then you are less likely to injure your child. This way does seem kind of drastic but when look at what could happen with the sores, it is a good alternative. After awhile he will come around when he starts to realize there is no pain.
