Turn grosgrain ribbon into your daughter's favorite hair bows.
Grosgrain ribbon folded and glued into heart shapes turns into DIY hair clips for a little girl. Make up a collection in different colors to match her wardrobe, or to sell at a fund raising bazaar. With some supervision during the use of a hot glue gun, girls can make these themselves, perhaps as a group project for scouting or at a party.
Instructions
1. Cut ribbon to between 3 and 5 inches in length. Light a match and pass it across the cut edges of the ribbon to singe them and keep them from fraying.
2. Fold a ribbon in half width-wise. Press the fold with a warm iron. Apply hot glue inside the first 1/4 inch of the fold and clip with a clothes pin until the glue is dry.
3. Hold the ribbon by the glued fold and allow the sides to fall open, one on either side of the fold. Apply a small amount of hot glue to one end and press the other end to it. Hold with a clothes pin until dry. This makes the shape of a heart made of ribbon.
4. Make ribbon hearts in five graduated sizes by using pieces of ribbon 6 inches, 5 1/2 inches, 5 inches, 4 inches and 4 1/2 inches long. Stack them so that they form a layered heart, and glue in place. Glue a hair clip to the back of the layered heart.
